CFTC Positions Report: Investors cut net long gold positions and cut net long U.S. crude oil positions

Data from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) showed that COMEX gold speculators reduced their net long positions by 1,855 contracts to 134,842 contracts in the week ending July 8.

As of the week ending July 8, COMEX silver speculators reduced their net long positions by 2,020 contracts to 43,605 contracts, while COMEX copper speculators increased their net long positions by 4,743 contracts to 36,287 contracts.

As of the week ending July 8, oil speculators cut their net long positions in WTI by 29,318 contracts to 85,746, while natural gas speculators in the four major markets of NYMEX and ICE increased their net long positions by 20,219 contracts to 236,173.

Stock fund speculators increased their net short position in the S&P 500 at CME by 39,349 contracts to 338,212 contracts in the week ended July 8, while stock fund managers increased their net long position in the S&P 500 at CME by 20,105 contracts to 864,681 contracts.

As of the week ending July 8, the CFTC's net long position in the yen was 116,155 contracts, the net long position in the euro was 120,596 contracts, the net long position in the pound was 33,194 contracts, and the net short position in the Swiss franc was -22,196 contracts.

As of the week ending July 8, speculators increased their net short position in CBOT U.S. Treasury futures by 4,301 contracts to 108,758, and cut their net short position in CBOT U.S. Ultra Bond futures by 4,138 contracts to 222,824.

As of the week ending July 8, speculators reduced their net short position in CBOT U.S. two-year Treasury futures by 14,515 contracts to 1,266,133 contracts, increased their net short position in CBOT U.S. 10-year Treasury futures by 56,917 contracts to 840,579 contracts, and increased their net short position in CBOT U.S. five-year Treasury futures by 39,785 contracts to 2,516,787 contracts.

As of the week ending July 8, CBOT wheat speculators' net short positions increased by 250 contracts to 74,405, CBOT corn speculators' net short positions decreased by 17,098 contracts to 284,192, and CBOT soybean speculators' net short positions increased by 10,885 contracts to 63,135.

As of the week ending July 8, cotton speculators increased their net short position by 1,746 contracts to 56,887, ICE cocoa speculators reduced their net long position by 121 contracts to 2,977, ICE sugar speculators reduced their net short position by 5,013 contracts to 119,822, and ICE coffee speculators increased their net long position by 1,015 contracts to 15,708.
