Definition
This is the soybean growth status index released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for a specific week. This data represents the USDA's Crop Progress Report—which includes data on different stages of the U.S. crop growing season. Due to the seasonality of crop growth, different data fields are reported for their respective crops only at a specific time of year. Farmland includes, but is not limited to, planting, emergence, harvest, and conditions. Data is released every Monday at 4:00 PM ET (postponed if it falls on a holiday).
Impact on Market
Why It Matters
The United States is the world's second-largest soybean producer. Better soybean growing conditions in the US suggest potentially higher production and supply, which theoretically is bearish for soybean prices. 1QH notes: According to parameters from authoritative international media, this indicator has a correlation of 80%.
