The International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects Japan's economy to grow by 0.7% in 2026 and 0.6% in 2027. The Bank of Japan is likely to raise interest rates gradually at a pace "slightly faster" than its October forecast. The IMF also lowered its 2026 and 2027 growth forecasts for Germany to 0.8% and 1.2% respectively, down from its January forecasts of 1.1% and 1.5%.

[Bank of America Survey: Investor Bearish Sentiment Reaches Strongest Level Since June] ⑴ A Bank of America global fund manager survey shows that investor bearish sentiment towards the market has reached its strongest level since June, driven by expectations of rising inflation and slowing economic growth. ⑵ Strategists led by Michael Hartnett stated that the broadest market sentiment indicator, based on cash levels, equity allocations, and global growth expectations, fell sharply to 3.7 from 5.6. ⑶ Growth expectations saw their largest decline since March 2022, while inflation expectations rose to their highest level since May 2021. ⑷ Strategists believe that this pessimism would be a "contrarian positive" for risk assets should a ceasefire cause oil prices to fall below $84 per barrel. ⑸ However, investors remain bullish on stocks, meaning that interest rate cuts and better-than-expected earnings are needed to support further stock market highs.

IMF Chief Economist Guranshah: A severe scenario would plunge some economies into a full-blown recession, with global inflation exceeding 6% and inflation expectations difficult to contain.
