CFTC Commitment of Shares Report: Investors increase net long gold positions, dollar short positions fall to 4-month low

Silver speculators cut their net long position by 13,012 contracts to 30,621 contracts in the week ended August 5. COMEX copper speculators reduced their net long position by 17,494 contracts to 18,032 contracts.
Crude oil speculators cut their net long positions in West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by 10,242 contracts to 23,127 contracts in the week ended August 5. Speculators' net long positions in NYMEX crude oil fell by 9,014 contracts to 78,826 contracts, a 17-week low.
Natural gas speculators cut their net long positions in the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) markets by 12,941 contracts to 243,198 contracts.
As of the week ending August 5, the net short position in the British pound was 33,303 contracts; the net short position in the Swiss franc was 27,377 contracts; the net long position in the Japanese yen was 82,006 contracts, and speculators' short positions in the US dollar fell to a four-month low.
Equity fund speculators cut their net short position in CME S&P 500 futures by 40,918 contracts to 322,114 in the week ended August 5.
As of the week ending August 5, speculators reduced their net short position in Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) U.S. Treasury futures by 363 contracts to 110,440 contracts. Speculators increased their net short position in Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) U.S. 5-year Treasury futures by 24,994 contracts to 2,536,877 contracts; their net short position in U.S. 10-year Treasury futures increased by 63,204 contracts to 959,834 contracts; and their net short position in U.S. 2-year Treasury futures increased by 122,286 contracts to 1,325,523 contracts.
As of the week ending August 5, Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) soybean speculators increased their net short position by 23,863 contracts to 116,230 contracts.
As of the week ending August 5, cotton speculators increased their net short position by 7,782 contracts to 60,754 contracts; cocoa speculators increased their net long position by 212 contracts to 492 contracts; sugar speculators increased their net short position by 17,654 contracts to 139,137 contracts, and coffee speculators increased their net long position by 301 contracts to 16,310 contracts.
