CFTC Commitment of Shares Report: Investors increase net long gold positions, cut net short crude oil positions

Oil speculators reduced their net short positions in West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil by 3,293 contracts to 10,064 contracts in the week ended September 2. Speculators in the four major natural gas futures markets, NYMEX and ICE, increased their net long positions by 22,471 contracts to 236,310 contracts.
As of the week ending September 2, the net short position in the Swiss franc was 25,888 contracts, the net short position in the British pound was 33,140 contracts, the net long position in the euro was 119,592 contracts, and the net long position in the Japanese yen was 73,258 contracts.
Equity fund managers cut their net long position in the S&P 500 index on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) by 16,318 contracts to 851,040 in the week ended September 2. Equity fund speculators cut their net short position in the S&P 500 index on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) by 52,369 contracts to 375,892.
As of the week ending September 2, ICE cotton speculators increased their net short positions by 11,227 contracts to 71,720 contracts; ICE cocoa speculators increased their net short positions by 461 contracts to 2,620 contracts; ICE sugar speculators increased their net short positions by 15,573 contracts to 148,385 contracts; and ICE coffee speculators increased their net long positions by 2,398 contracts to 19,447 contracts.
As of the week ending September 2, CBOT wheat speculators' net short positions decreased by 2,164 contracts to 92,872 contracts; CBOT corn speculators' net short positions decreased by 15,487 contracts to 216,996 contracts; and CBOT soybean speculators' net short positions increased by 10,928 contracts to 52,810 contracts.
As of the week ending September 2, CBOT's net short position in U.S. Treasury futures increased by 41,255 contracts to 77,268 contracts, CBOT's net short position in U.S. ultra-long bond futures increased by 14,274 contracts to 263,219 contracts, and CBOT's net short position in U.S. two-year Treasury futures increased by 33,001 contracts to 1,296,083 contracts; CBOT's net short position in U.S. 10-year Treasury futures decreased by 15,471 contracts to 868,358 contracts, and CBOT's net short position in U.S. five-year Treasury futures increased by 218,016 contracts to 2,681,987 contracts.
