[The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda reach consensus on mining cooperation plan] According to a draft agreement, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (abbreviated as "the Democratic Republic of the Congo") and Rwanda have reached a consensus to join the United States and other parties to take measures to reform the mining industries of the two countries. This economic cooperation framework is part of the peace agreement between the two countries brokered by the United States, and its core goal is to attract foreign investment. Previously, the United Nations stated that Rwanda had deployed troops in the mineral-rich eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and provided support to the "M23 rebel forces", and the United States has been committed to promoting peace in the region. In this 17-page agreement, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda agreed to work with the United States, private enterprises and multilateral development banks to jointly combat illegal mineral trade and expand industry investment. The agreement includes a number of commitments, such as third-party inspections of mines and the establishment of cross-border special economic zones. For most of the past 30 years, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been plagued by war. The country has one of the world's richest reserves of copper, cobalt and tantalum mineral resources.
