Apple Returns to Design Roots: Bloomberg's Mark Gurman published a blog post yesterday (September 14th) reporting that six years after the departure of former Apple Chief Design Officer Jony Ive, Apple is undergoing a major shift in design philosophy, returning to its roots and prioritizing function over form. The design department, which has consisted of a small number of senior executives and a large number of new members over the past few years, is expected to adopt a more hands-on approach with the retirement of Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams, who previously oversaw design. The new head of design will report directly to CEO Tim Cook and will be responsible for the management of the company.
