Greece's Primary Budget Surplus Exceeds Expectations for January-August: 1) The Greek Ministry of Finance reported Monday that the central government's primary budget surplus reached €8.7 billion for the first eight months of this year, nearly 80% above the target of €4.93 billion. 2) Tax revenues of €46.6 billion, €2.12 billion above target, were primarily driven by spending that was €3.36 billion below budget. 3) Greece has consistently exceeded its budget targets since the 2009-2018 debt crisis, thanks to strong revenue from crackdowns on tax evasion and the expansion of electronic payments.
