[Analyst: Short-covering in the Australian Dollar against the US Dollar May Intensify This Week] ⑴ The Australian dollar hit a 2025 peak of 0.6668 against the US dollar last Friday. ⑵ It traded in a range of 0.6645-0.6667 on Monday, last trading at 0.6660. ⑶ Since rebounding from a low of 0.6370 in May, short positions betting on a falling Australian dollar have doubled to $6.5 billion. ⑷ Traders have been reducing this substantial short position since late August. ⑸ In the week when the Australian dollar hit a yearly high against the US dollar, traders still held a net short position of $5.2 billion. ⑹ Market expectations that the Federal Reserve will resume its easing cycle on September 17th will support the Australian dollar against the US dollar.
