[UK unemployment rate remains at 4.7% in July] ⑴ The UK unemployment rate for the three months ending in July was 4.7%, unchanged from the previous reading and in line with market expectations, remaining at its highest level since August 2021. ⑵ The number of people unemployed for 6-12 months and for more than 12 months increased compared to the previous period, with all unemployment duration groups showing an upward trend year-on-year. ⑶ The number of employed people increased by 232,000 to a record high of 34.2 million, primarily driven by growth in full-time jobs. ⑷ The number of part-time workers increased to 3.8% of the total employed population, indicating that more workers are seeking additional sources of income. ⑸ The economic inactivity rate rose slightly to 21.1%, up 0.1 percentage point from the previous reading.
