[Top 15 Countries by Per Capita Energy Consumption in 2024: Iceland Leads with Clean Energy] ⑴ According to the Energy Institute's "Statistical World Energy 2025" report, the top 15 countries in the world by per capita energy consumption in 2024 have been released. Iceland ranks first globally with a per capita energy consumption of 788 GJ. Its electricity comes almost 100% from renewable energy sources, with approximately 70% coming from hydropower and 30% from geothermal energy, thanks to its abundant geothermal and hydropower resources. ⑵ Also in the top five are Qatar, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait. These countries either have small populations but significant energy production—for example, Qatar's energy output accounts for approximately 80% of its industrial output—or have strong electricity demand due to climate factors. ⑶ In terms of regional distribution, North America will remain the world's highest per capita energy consumer, reaching 217 GJ in 2024, nearly three times the global average of 73 GJ. Europe and the Middle East followed closely behind, with per capita energy consumption of 105 GJ and 141 GJ respectively, continuing to be important regions for global energy consumption.
