US House Republicans released a draft stopgap funding bill to keep the government running after October 1st. The bill does not include health care policies demanded by Democrats, and the GOP is betting that Democrats will be unable to block its passage. This short-term bill will keep federal agencies operating until November 21st. Following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk last week, the bill provides new funding for security for Congress, the judiciary, and executive branch officials. The bill requires the approval of at least seven Senate Democrats, reaching the 60-vote threshold to overcome procedural hurdles. While Trump has publicly called on Republicans to unite behind the stopgap funding bill, the Republicans' narrow seat advantage over Democrats in the House makes it difficult for the bill to pass without unanimous Democratic opposition. The bill also provides $30 million for lawmakers to reimburse local police security expenses, $30 million for executive branch security, and $28 million for judiciary security.
