The Israeli military said that on September 18, a shooting incident occurred at the Allenby Bridge land crossing at the border between the Palestinian West Bank and Jordan, killing two Israeli soldiers. A truck driver transporting humanitarian aid from Jordan to the Gaza Strip opened fire and killed two people at the crossing, one of whom was an Israeli reserve school-level officer and the other was an Israeli sergeant. The gunman was subsequently shot dead by the Israeli army. The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the driver involved was a civilian and said it would launch an investigation. Israeli Chief of Staff Zamir suggested that the Israeli government "suspend the entry of humanitarian aid from Jordan until the investigation of the incident is completed and the revised Jordanian driver screening procedures are implemented." The land crossing is controlled by Israel.
