Japan's July sell-off of U.S. stocks hit a record high. According to data from the U.S. Treasury Department, Japanese investors sold a record amount of U.S. stocks during the U.S. stock market rally in July. Net sales totaled $15.15 billion, the highest level since data began in 1977. Prior to this, Japanese investors had set a record net purchase of $18.2 billion in U.S. stocks in March. The S&P 500 rose 2.2% in July, or 6.7% in yen terms. Overall, overseas investors sold $16.2 billion in U.S. stocks in July, the largest sell-off since October of last year.
