From January to August, 460 million foreign nationals traveled between mainland China and ASEAN countries, a 52.1% year-on-year increase. A regional immigration governance policy seminar held in Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province, on the 17th revealed that from January to August 2025, over 25.244 million people traveled between mainland China and ASEAN countries, an 11.2% year-on-year increase. Of these, 14.505 million mainland Chinese residents traveled to ASEAN countries, a 3.7% year-on-year increase, primarily for tourism, visiting relatives and friends. 10.739 million ASEAN nationals entered mainland China, a 27.5% year-on-year increase, of which 9.054 million traveled visa-free, a 28.4% year-on-year increase, primarily for tourism, business, and other activities. People-to-people exchanges between China and ASEAN countries remain robust. Since the entry into force of the mutual visa exemption agreement between China and Malaysia on July 17 this year, 180,000 Malaysian citizens have entered mainland China, a 13.2% year-on-year increase, of which 150,000 traveled visa-free, a 15.1% year-on-year increase.
