[Canada and Mexico pledge to strengthen coordination in trade agreement review] The leaders of Canada and Mexico pledged to maintain close coordination ahead of a high-stakes trade agreement review with the United States next year. The current tariff threats from US President Trump put the agreement at risk. At a joint press conference held at the National Palace in Mexico, Canadian Prime Minister Carney and Mexican President Sheinbaum jointly affirmed progress that will enhance the competitiveness of North America - the region not only has a highly integrated automotive industry, but also has a large amount of cross-border trade in areas such as energy and agriculture. This is the first time that the leaders of the two countries have held a summit in Mexico City, marking a new development in the recent strengthening of Canada-Mexico relations: the two sides previously had differences in trade negotiation strategies with the United States, and now Canada and Mexico are jointly seeking to persuade Trump to reduce import tariffs on goods such as steel, automobiles and agricultural products. The meeting demonstrated the united stance of Canada and Mexico, reversing the sometimes cold bilateral relations during the administrations of former Prime Minister Trudeau and former Mexican President Lopez.
