[Baltic Index closed positive on a weekly basis, with divergent demand for commodity shipping] ⑴ The Baltic Dry Index rose 13 points to 1936 points on Friday, with a weekly cumulative increase of 1.8%, achieving consecutive weekly increases. ⑵ The Capesize Index climbed 13 points to 2799 points, a weekly increase of 2.8%, and its average daily earnings increased by US$115 to US$23,216. ⑶ Iron ore futures prices also strengthened, and the market's expectations of a rebound in steel prices and improved fundamentals supported shipping demand. ⑷ The Panamax Index performed well during the week, rising 34 points to 1764 points in a single day, a weekly increase of 6.1%, setting a recent high. ⑸ The average daily earnings of this type of ship increased by US$305 to US$15,873, reflecting the active shipping activities of commodities such as coal and grain. ⑹ The Ultramax Index fell 1 point against the trend to 1402 points, hitting a new low since August 22, and the weekly decline widened to 3.1%.
