On October 18, renowned car critic Chen Zhen gave an interview, recounting for the first time the details of the October 3rd accident. He stated that he over-trusted the vehicle's assisted driving function and bent down to pick up an item while driving, which led to the accident. He assumed full responsibility for the accident in accordance with the law and apologized to the party that was struck. He also reminded the public to fully understand the limitations of their vehicle's "smart driving" capabilities before using assisted driving, drive cautiously, and not blindly trust the system. Describing the specific details of the accident, Chen Zhen stated that the vehicle he was driving that day had Level 2 autonomous driving capabilities and that assisted driving was enabled before the accident, allowing for automatic following and lane keeping. There was a car ahead of him at the time, and his vehicle automatically adjusted to follow the speed of the car ahead, traveling at around 50 to 60 kilometers per hour. He bent down to pick up an item before driving at the intersection where the accident occurred, and was seriously impacted. Later, dashcam and video surveillance footage revealed that while he was bending down to pick up the item, the car ahead changed lanes, and his vehicle gradually accelerated to around 80 kilometers per hour, ran a red light, and entered the oncoming lane, almost without slowing down, directly hitting the other vehicle. Vehicle data showed that assisted driving was still on at the time of the collision.
