[The National Marine Forecasting Center has issued a yellow storm surge alert and an orange sea wave warning.] Due to the combined influence of a strong cold front and Typhoon Fengshen, the 24th typhoon of the year, the National Marine Forecasting Center upgraded the sea wave alert to orange at 4:00 PM today (October 19th) and issued a yellow storm surge alert. From the afternoon of October 19th to the afternoon of the 20th, large and to extremely high waves of 3 to 5.5 meters are expected in the East China Sea, the Taiwan Strait, and the northern part of the South China Sea. The coastal waters of Fujian are expected to experience large and extremely high waves of 3 to 4.5 meters, with the sea wave warning level set at orange. The coastal waters of Shanghai, Zhejiang, and eastern Guangdong are expected to experience large waves of 2.5 to 3.5 meters, with the sea wave warning level set at yellow. The coastal waters of eastern Shandong, southern Jiangsu, and eastern Hainan are expected to experience moderate to high waves of 2 to 3 meters, with the sea wave warning level set at blue. Vessels operating in the above-mentioned waters are advised to exercise caution, and relevant coastal units are advised to take preemptive measures to prevent and avoid waves. Regarding storm surges, a storm surge of 50 to 120 centimeters is expected along the coast from Nantong, Jiangsu to Zhangzhou, Fujian, and 30 to 70 centimeters along the coast from Chaozhou to Huizhou, Guangdong, from the afternoon of October 19th to the afternoon of the 20th. The storm surge warning level for Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, and Fuzhou and Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, has been set at yellow. The storm surge warning level for Jiaxing, Zhoushan, and Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, Ningde and Quanzhou, Fujian Province, and Chaozhou and Shantou, Guangdong Province, has been set at blue. Coastal governments and relevant departments are urged to fulfill their responsibilities and make emergency preparations for storm surges. All vessels must return to port for shelter, and aquaculture facilities and fish cages must be maintained and reinforced. Inspections of coastal seawalls, sluices, and other facilities must be strengthened, and seawalls in vulnerable and at-risk areas must be promptly reinforced and de-risked. (CCTV News)
