[Moody's: It remains unclear whether the US-Southeast Asia trade agreement will improve the regional outlook] Moody's economist Denise Cheok said it is too early to judge whether the trade agreement reached between Southeast Asian countries and the United States will significantly improve the region's prospects by 2026. She pointed out that the trade agreements signed by the United States with Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia appear to be tilted in favor of the United States. The overall tariff rate - a key factor affecting exports - has not changed with the agreement. She said: "It is unclear whether the commitment to buy American products will lead to increased investment in the region, especially if American companies are encouraged to invest domestically rather than overseas."
