U.S. Treasury: Treasury Secretary Benson emphasized in a meeting with the Japanese Finance Minister that sound monetary policy and enhanced communication play an important role in stabilizing inflation expectations and preventing excessive exchange rate fluctuations. Twelve years after the launch of Abenomics, the current economic situation is very different. Benson was pleased to hear the views of Japanese Finance Minister Katayama Satsuki on the fiscal measures being considered by Japan, and expressed the hope to learn more when the full package is formulated to better understand the potential impact. Benson praised Katayama Satsuki for her excellent work in promoting deregulation during her previous cabinet tenure and expressed his confidence in her ability to continue to drive productivity improvements in the Japanese economy.
