Google announces plans to restart a nuclear power plant to power its AI infrastructure. On the 27th, Google announced a plan to restart a nuclear power plant in Iowa to power its artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. This demonstrates that the US tech giant is expanding its energy supply channels for AI infrastructure. According to a joint press release from Google and NextEra Energy, the Duane Arnold Energy Center, which closed in 2020, will reopen in 2029 to help meet Google's growing power needs for its cloud and AI infrastructure in Iowa. The two parties have signed a 25-year power purchase agreement. The press release also stated that as the United States enters a new era of AI-driven innovation and opportunity, this strategic partnership aims to help Google meet its business growth needs in a responsible manner. In addition to this newly announced partnership, Google previously announced a collaboration with Element Energy to build three advanced nuclear power plants in the United States to ensure additional power supply.
