[UK Mortgage Approvals Hit Nine-Month High in September] ⑴ Net mortgage approvals in the UK rose by 1,000 to 65,900 in September 2025, the highest level in nine months and exceeding market expectations of 64,000. ⑵ Refinance approvals decreased by 600 to 37,200; this indicator only tracks refinancing transactions involving different lenders. ⑶ The "effective" interest rate on newly issued mortgages fell by 7 basis points to 4.19%, the lowest since January 2023. ⑷ The interest rate on newly issued mortgages continued its downward trend since March 2025. ⑸ The interest rate on outstanding mortgages remained unchanged at 3.89%.
