[This rate cut by the Bank of Canada may be the last for now] Robert Kavcic of BMO believes that the Bank of Canada's easing policy may have temporarily come to an end after it cut its policy rate by 25 basis points, as widely expected by the market. The economist stated that the central bank seems to believe that its easing policies to date will provide support, inflation is steadily returning to 2%, and the effectiveness of monetary policy is somewhat limited in the unique economic environment. That said, Kavcic noted that the continued weakness in the labor market leaves room for some further support, and another 25 basis point rate cut is still possible in early 2026.
