Scotiabank: Canadian Q3 Economic Growth Barely Positive, But Bank of Canada Not Surprised] Scotiabank's Derek Holt stated that Canadian economic growth in the third quarter was barely positive, but the Bank of Canada was not surprised. The economy contracted in August, following a slight upward revision of July's growth data, while September's expected growth momentum was positive. Holt pointed out that the final result showed that the annualized GDP growth rate for the third quarter was approximately 0.4%, largely consistent with the Bank of Canada's recently released growth forecast of 0.5%. Holt also noted that the central bank's forecasts and tracking estimates are based on different concepts, therefore it cannot be concluded that the Bank of Canada's estimates were incorrect.
