According to a post on LinkedIn by Novo Nordisk CEO Mike Duesdale on Friday, the notification process for the company's planned 9,000 layoffs is largely complete. The layoffs are global, although the progress varies depending on local laws. This is part of a restructuring plan launched by Duesdale last month. Novo Nordisk is currently facing fierce competition from Eli Lilly in the world's largest pharmaceutical market, the US, where the $150 billion weight-loss drug market is booming, and Novo Nordisk is seeking further breakthroughs.
