[my country's Thorium-Based Molten Salt Experimental Reactor Completed with Domestically Produced Core Equipment and Achieved In-Potential Thorium-Uranium Conversion for the First Time] The Chinese Academy of Sciences announced today (November 1st) that a thorium-based molten salt experimental reactor, located in Minqin County, Wuwei City, Gansu Province, has been completed and achieved in-potential thorium-uranium conversion for the first time. This preliminary demonstration of the technical feasibility of utilizing thorium resources lays an important scientific foundation for the subsequent large-scale utilization of thorium fuel. This experimental reactor is my country's fourth-generation advanced fission nuclear energy system, independently developed, designed, and constructed. It is also currently the only molten salt reactor in the world in operation that has achieved thorium fuel injection. The thorium-based molten salt experimental reactor uses thorium as nuclear fuel and liquid fluoride molten salt as coolant, offering advantages such as safety, waterless cooling, atmospheric pressure operation, and high-temperature output.
