[UN Security Council Approves Extensions of Mandates for Multiple UN Missions] On October 31, local time, the UN Security Council voted to extend the mandates of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), the United Nations Mission in Western Sahara (UNMISS) for the Referendum, and the United Nations Inspectorate in Colombia (UNCITRAL). The extension of the mandate for UNSMIL was unanimously approved. Fu Cong, China's Permanent Representative to the UN, stated after the vote that China welcomes the unanimous adoption of the resolution. He noted that in the face of the political deadlock in Libya, UNSMIL plays an indispensable role in promoting peace and stability in the country. China supports the Security Council's extension of the mandate for UNSMIL and looks forward to the Special Representative continuing to lead UNSMIL in advancing the political roadmap, which is both an important task and a formidable challenge at present.
