On October 23, US President Trump announced the suspension of trade negotiations with Canada due to his dissatisfaction with an ad sponsored by the Ontario government. Trump accused Canada of "deceptively" claiming that former US President Reagan opposed tariffs. On October 25, Trump also stated that he intended to impose an additional 10% tariff on goods imported from Canada, on top of existing tariffs, due to Ontario's television ads targeting the US tariff increase.
