[Invasive Meningococcal Disease Cases Rise in the UK] A report released by the UK Health Security Agency on October 31 shows an increase in confirmed cases of invasive meningococcal disease in England for the 2024/2025 fiscal year. Although rare, the disease can have serious consequences and even be life-threatening. Children and young people, especially university students, remain at risk of infection. The report shows that there are 378 confirmed cases of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) in England for the 2024/2025 fiscal year, an increase from 340 cases in the previous year. Data shows that meningococcus type B is the most common cause of infection, accounting for 82.6% of all cases annually, and is responsible for 90% of infant cases and 100% of cases in adolescents aged 15 to 19.
