The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board confirmed on November 2 that it is investigating a near-collision that occurred on October 29 near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, when a Southwest Airlines passenger plane and a helicopter narrowly avoided a mid-air collision. According to flight tracking websites, the Boeing 737 and a medical helicopter were at the same altitude of 2,075 feet (632.46 meters) at the time, coming within 0.56 miles (901.23 meters) of each other. Fortunately, the passenger plane's pilots received an emergency avoidance warning (RA) from the collision avoidance system, thus preventing a mid-air collision.
