Emerging Market Sovereign Bond Issuance Reaches Record High in 2025. Emerging market sovereign bond issuance is projected to reach a record high in 2025, exceeding $240 billion and surpassing the peak levels seen during the 2020 pandemic. This strong momentum is primarily driven by large-scale bond issuances in Mexico and Saudi Arabia, while recent issuances of over $5 billion each in Turkey, Slovakia, and Suriname have further boosted the total. Market analysis indicates that a significant rebound in investor enthusiasm for emerging markets is a key factor driving this record-breaking issuance. Compared to the same period last year, the current global interest rate environment is more favorable, and market concerns about political risks have eased, making emerging market countries more inclined to finance through the bond market. Looking ahead, investment bankers expect issuance to expand further. Morgan Stanley analysts point out that several large emerging economies, including China, Brazil, South Africa, and Nigeria, as well as smaller countries with urgent financing needs such as Cameroon and Pakistan, are likely to enter the bond market in the coming months, adding at least another $10 billion to the total issuance.
