[US President Trump Says Limited Means of Economic Pressure on Russia] US President Donald Trump stated that the US has limited means of economic pressure on Russia. In an interview with CBS, when asked why the US policy of mediating between opposing sides through tariffs has not worked with Russia, Trump replied, "I think working with Putin works. I take a different approach with him because we don't do much business with Russia, you know? He's not the kind of person who buys a lot of our (goods)." Trump believes the Russian leadership wants economic cooperation with Washington. He said, "I think he (President Putin) wants to come and do business with us and make a lot of money for the Russians." According to Trump, the limited commercial ties between Russia and the US are "due to stupid policies."
