[UCAS Team Led by Zhang Xiaheng Publishes in *Nature*, Solving a Century-Old Industrial Application Problem!] ⑴ On Monday, according to the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), on October 28th (Beijing time), the internationally renowned journal *Nature* published the latest research findings of Professor Zhang Xiaheng's team from the School of Chemistry and Materials Science at the UCAS Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study—"Direct deaminative functionalization with N-nitroamines." ⑵ This achievement received high praise from four reviewers of *Nature*, including Scott Bagley, Senior Director of Research and Development at the international pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, who described it as a "true tour deforce" (French for "true masterpiece"). In this breakthrough, Zhang Xiaheng's team proposed a novel strategy: using N-nitroamines to achieve direct deaminative functionalization, which can efficiently convert inert aromatic carbon-nitrogen bonds directly into various key chemical bonds such as carbon-halogen bonds, carbon-oxygen bonds, carbon-nitrogen bonds, and carbon-carbon bonds. (3) This method requires only common laboratory reagents to efficiently achieve kilogram-scale synthesis of the target product. This technology is expected to revolutionize traditional processes used in industry for 140 years, providing a safe and economical new path for aryldiazo chemistry—alyldiazo chemistry, although widely used in traditional fields, has long been limited by its explosiveness and high risks. This achievement may find widespread application in several important fields such as pharmaceuticals and materials manufacturing in the future.
