[Cui Dongshu: China Accounted for 68% of Global New Energy Vehicle Market Share in January-September 2025] Cui Dongshu, Secretary-General of the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), stated that global automobile sales reached 70.53 million units in the first nine months of 2025, with new energy vehicles accounting for 15.71 million units. In the first nine months of 2025, the proportion of new energy vehicles (broadly defined) in global automobile sales reached 29.2%, an increase of 2.9 percentage points compared to the whole of 2024. Narrowly defined new energy vehicles reached 22.3%, showing a relatively strong performance. Of the 22.3% share of new energy vehicles in the first nine months of 2025, pure electric vehicles accounted for 14.8%, and plug-in hybrids accounted for 7.5%, demonstrating excellent performance. Of the 3.73 million units of new energy vehicle sales added or reduced globally in the first nine months of 2025, China accounted for 68%, while Germany and the United States contributed 5% and 4% of the increase, respectively. Therefore, the overall increase in global new energy vehicle sales is primarily driven by China. In recent years, China has contributed about 80% of the world's incremental growth, and the Chinese auto market is the core focus of the global competition in new energy vehicles.
