[Baltic Dry Index Collapses Across the Board, Rates for All Three Vessel Types Plunge to Three-Week Lows] ⑴ The Baltic Dry Index fell 21 points, or 1.1%, to close at 1945 points on Monday, its lowest level in over three weeks since October 10th, with rates for all vessel types weakening. ⑵ The Capesize index plunged 41 points, or 1.4%, to 2888 points, with its average daily earnings falling by $333 to $23,955, mainly reflecting weak demand for iron ore and coal cargo transportation. ⑶ Iron ore futures prices also softened, mainly pressured by a combination of factors including reduced steel production in China, rising port inventories, and weakening downstream demand. ⑷ The Panamax index fell for the sixth consecutive trading day, declining 20 points, or 1.1%, to 1801 points, with its average daily earnings decreasing by $182 to $16,207. (5) The Handysize vessel index fell 6 points or 0.5% to 1320 points, and the small and medium-sized vessel market was not spared from this general decline.
