Point72 is reportedly forming a new equities division to expand its stock-picking business. Point72 Asset Management is joining other large, diversified hedge funds operating multiple stock-picking businesses. According to documents, billionaire founder Steve Cohen stated in a letter to employees that Point72 has “significantly increased the size of its team and the allocation of capital to its fundamental equity investment strategies.” Effective January 1, the company will reorganize its equities team into two business units: Point72 Equities and the newly established Valist Asset Management. A company representative declined to comment.
