[US Texas manufacturing expands for the first time since January] Manufacturing conditions in Texas improved for the first time in six months in July as trade tensions cooled and production increased. The Dallas Fed said on Monday that the general business activity index of the Texas Manufacturing Outlook Survey rose to 0.9 this month from -12.7 in June. 331 Texas business executives said the index was above zero for the first time since January, meaning economic activity is expanding slightly rather than contracting. The sub-index jumped 20 points to 21.3, the highest in more than three years. At the same time, labor market indicators were also more positive, indicating an increase in employment and working hours. The report added that the new orders index remained negative but the growth rate slowed, while the capacity utilization and shipments indexes rose to positive values. Although sales price growth has slowed, high pressure on input prices has continued this month, sending a mixed message ahead of this week's Federal Reserve meeting.
