[Base metal prices rose and fell in sluggish trading] Base metal prices rose and fell in sluggish trading, with three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange (LME) flat at $9,793 a tonne and three-month aluminum on the London Metal Exchange (LME) rising 0.3% to $2,640 a tonne. The market is awaiting more details on the U.S. copper import tariffs that will take effect on Saturday. SPAngel analysts said in a report that areas of review will include which products and imports from which countries will be subject to the 50% announced copper tariff. SPAngel wrote that U.S. copper prices are still only $3,000 a ton higher than the London Metal Exchange (LME) price, indicating that the market expects President Trump to make concessions. In addition, the trade agreement reached between the European Union and the United States maintains the existing 50% steel and aluminum tariffs. (Dow Jones)
