[KfW: The EU-US tariff agreement is strategically risky for the EU] Dirk Schumacher, chief economist of KfW, said that although the agreement with the United States avoided a trade war with escalating tariffs, the agreement was strategically risky for the EU. He said the agreement was good news for economic activity, especially considering that German and European industrial sectors successfully coped with tariff increases in April. But it is believed that the EU will now back down under pressure, reducing its strategic room for maneuver in future disputes. He also said that the EU must also be cautious to avoid increasing its strategic dependence on the United States because of the agreement. (Dow Jones)
