[Trump loses patience with Putin and says he will shorten the ceasefire ultimatum] US President Trump said he would give Russian President Putin 10 to 12 days to reach a ceasefire agreement with Ukraine, otherwise the United States will put more economic pressure on Russia. Trump is currently trying to pull Putin to the negotiating table. "We thought we had solved this problem several times," Trump said, and he was "very disappointed" with Putin. "Then Putin started firing rockets at a city after the negotiations." Trump went on to say that there were several times when he thought his talks with Putin were positive, but he saw Russia's attacks on Ukraine intensify, sometimes just a few hours after the two talked on the phone. "You know, this has happened too many times, and I don't like it," Trump said. He did not say directly that Putin was lying to him, but said he "didn't want to talk to Putin much anymore." It is not clear what kind of sanctions Russia will face if it does not stop fighting by mid-August. When asked whether he would impose a 100% tariff on Russia as he had said before, Trump did not confirm the details. "It will be sanctions, maybe tariffs, sub-tariffs," he said. Ed Arnold of the Royal United Services Institute, a British think tank, said Putin could also shrug off the package, which would allow Trump to weaken his leverage over Putin without increasing military involvement in the conflict. "It could be counterproductive," he said.
