[Russian media: The Russian government will consider abolishing the agreement with the United States on the disposal of weapons-grade plutonium] According to a source, the Russian government will review a draft law this week, which involves abolishing an agreement with the United States on the disposal of weapons-grade plutonium. TASS quoted a source as saying that "the draft law has been included in the agenda of the July 31 meeting." The report said that if approved, the bill will be submitted to the Russian State Duma (lower house of parliament) for deliberation. A member of the Russian Bar Association said that Russia's intention to abolish the agreement is related to the US sanctions against Russia. Russia's "Newspaper" interpreted that "the Russian government hopes to abolish an agreement with the United States on the disposal of weapons-grade plutonium." As of press time, no official Russian response to the above news has been seen. Russia and the United States signed the "Plutonium Management and Disposal Agreement" in 2000. According to the agreement, the two sides should convert at least 34 tons of weapons-grade plutonium into civilian nuclear fuel. In October 2016, the Russian side stated that in view of a series of unfriendly actions taken by the United States against Russia, Russia suspended the implementation of the "Plutonium Management and Disposal Agreement"
