US Poll Shows Significant Generational Differences in Attitudes toward the Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki: (1) According to a July 29th report by Japan's Kyodo News Agency, this August will mark the 80th anniversary of the US dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A recent Pew Research Center survey shows that 35% of American adults believe the atomic bombings of World War II were justified, 31% believe they were not, and 33% are unsure. (2) Significant age differences exist: 48% of those aged 65 and over support the decision (20% oppose it), while 44% of those aged 18-29 oppose it (27% support it). (3) Compared to the 2015 survey (56% support vs. 34% oppose it), support has declined significantly, but the difference is partly due to the addition of an "unsure" option. (Refinitiv)
