[Media: US Senators Propose Fund to Supply Arms to Ukraine with Funding from Allies] According to a July 30th Wall Street Journal report, two influential Republican senators proposed establishing a special fund under the US Treasury Department that would allow allies to finance the supply of US weapons to Ukraine. The "PEACE Act," drafted by Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Roger Wicker and Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch at the initiative of US President Trump, proposes establishing a separate account in the US Treasury to receive funds from US partners such as the UK and Germany. Annual contributions are expected to range from $5 billion to $8 billion. The Wall Street Journal noted that the Pentagon would be able to use these funds to contract with US contractors to replenish its stockpiles while continuing to supply weapons to Ukraine without compromising US defense capabilities. Wicker commented, "This is the fastest way to arm Ukraine while simultaneously reducing Russia's strategic and military threat to the United States and NATO." The White House reportedly generally supports the initiative. The bill is slated to be included in the annual defense budget and passed by the end of the year. The newspaper noted that the United States has provided Kyiv with approximately $66 billion in military aid since the outbreak of the Ukrainian conflict in 2022.
