Hubei's Photovoltaic Capacity Surpasses Thermal Power for the First Time, With a Quarter of the Province's Electricity Coming from Renewable Energy. On July 31st, State Grid Hubei Electric Power Co., Ltd. announced that Hubei's installed photovoltaic capacity has exceeded 42.8282 million kilowatts, accounting for 32.31% of the total installed capacity. After surpassing hydropower for the first time in April of this year, photovoltaic capacity has now surpassed thermal power (41.1880 million kilowatts, accounting for 31.08%), becoming the province's largest power source for the first time. From January to June of this year, the Hubei power grid consumed 20.536 billion kilowatt-hours of photovoltaic power, a year-on-year increase of 36.85%. Combined with the province's 10.3871 million kilowatts of wind power installed, Hubei now receives one out of every four kilowatt-hours of electricity consumed from renewable energy sources. This not only further reduces Hubei's dependence on traditional fossil fuels but also injects strong "green momentum" into its high-quality economic development.
