On August 1, local time, the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences announced that an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 occurred 86 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at a depth of 26.2 kilometers.
