Even the Model Y facelift can't save Tesla's European sales? (1) Despite the Model Y facelift, Tesla's sales registrations in several major European markets still saw a significant decline in July. (2) Year-on-year registrations in Sweden, Denmark, France, and the Netherlands dropped by 86%, 52%, 27%, and 62%, respectively. (3) In stark contrast, registrations in Norway and Spain bucked the trend, increasing by 83% and 27%, respectively. (4) In Norway in particular, Model Y sales surged more than fourfold, driven by Tesla's zero-interest financing in the country. (5) Tesla CEO Elon Musk acknowledged that Europe's strict autonomous driving regulations have made sales more challenging and said the company could face "a few tough quarters." (6) He believes that once the company can offer the same autonomous driving experience in Europe as in the United States, sales will surge. (7) Tesla faces stiff competition from low-cost electric vehicle rivals. For example, BYD's sales in Spain in July were nearly eight times higher than the same period last year.
