[Iron ore demand is weak, why did the Baltic Index hit a new monthly low?] ⑴ The Baltic Dry Index rose slightly on Friday, but still recorded its worst weekly performance since early June. ⑵ The index fell by more than 10% this week to 2,018 points. ⑶ The fundamental reason for the decline in freight rates is the general decline in freight rates for all ship types. ⑷ The Capesize Index rose 1.8% on Friday, but still fell nearly 14% for the week, with its average daily earnings increasing by $473 to $27,331. ⑸ In addition, the Panamax Index fell 0.9% to 1,644 points, a weekly drop of more than 10%, the worst weekly performance since April, with average daily earnings falling by $131 to $14,798. ⑹ The Supramax Index rose 1 point to 1,269 points, but it has fallen for the second consecutive week. ⑺ The main reason for the weakening freight rates is market concerns about iron ore demand.
