CFTC Positions Report: Investors cut net long gold positions, crude oil positions turned net short

COMEX copper speculators increased their net long positions by 6,512 contracts to 24,545 contracts in the week ending August 12.
As of the week ending August 12, fund managers had turned their U.S. crude oil futures and options positions into a net short position, with speculative net short positions in WTI crude oil falling by 27,177 contracts to 4,048.
Speculators on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) Brent crude oil futures reduced their net long position by 34,430 contracts to 206,547 contracts in the week ended August 12. Speculators on the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) gasoline futures futures increased their net long position by 2,280 contracts to 88,287 contracts.
As of the week ending August 12, the net long position of natural gas futures in the NYMEX and ICE markets decreased by 39,001 contracts to 204,197 contracts.
As of the week ending August 12, speculators increased their net short positions in the S&P 500 index on the CME by 74,016 contracts to 396,132 contracts; fund managers increased their net long positions in the S&P 500 index on the CME by 46,675 contracts to 887,310 contracts.
As of the week ending August 12, the net long position in the Japanese yen was 74,234 contracts, the net short position in the Swiss franc was -28,043 contracts, the net short position in the British pound was -39,093 contracts, and the net long position in the euro was 115,431 contracts.
As of the week ending August 12, speculators increased their net short position in CBOT U.S. 2-year Treasury bond futures by 54,074 contracts to 1,379,597 contracts, and reduced their net short position in CBOT U.S. 10-year Treasury bond futures by 17,611 contracts to 942,223 contracts.
As of the week ending August 12, ICE cotton speculators' net short positions increased by 1,222 contracts to 61,977 contracts; cocoa speculators' net long positions increased by 1,916 contracts to 2,408 contracts; and ICE sugar speculators' net short positions decreased by 17,263 contracts to 121,873 contracts.
As of the week ending August 12, wheat speculators increased their net short positions by 9,497 contracts to 100,396 contracts, corn speculators increased their net short positions by 10,024 contracts to 257,856 contracts, and soybean speculators decreased their net short positions by 35,354 contracts to 80,876 contracts.
