India to Resume Sugar Exports in New Crushing Season, Expected to Ease Global Supply Pressures: (1) Senior Indian government officials stated that the country will have ample surplus sugar stocks for export in the new crushing season, which begins on October 1st. (2) India is the world's second-largest sugar producer, and its exports could put pressure on international sugar prices. (3) Ashwini Srivastava, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Food and Public Distribution, confirmed at a global conference that there is room for sugar exports in the new crushing season. (4) Despite a decline in production this season, India has allowed exports of 1 million tons of sugar in the current marketing year, which ends in September. (5) The outlook for the new crushing season is positive, with ample stocks remaining for export after meeting domestic consumption and ethanol production needs. (6) A record 4.8 billion liters of ethanol are expected to be produced from sugarcane in the new crushing season.
